YORK, Pa.– Eastern University Softball saw its offensive woes continue with a pair of road losses against a very solid York College team. The Eagles managed only four singles in an 8-0 loss in the opener before scoring three runs on seven hits in an 8-3 loss in the nightcap.
The host Spartans scored in single tallies in the first and and second innings before pulling away with two runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth. The Eagles put two runners on in the first and then did not have another baserunner until
Jess Snader singled in the fourth. The first game marked the fourth-consecutive game that the Eagles went without an extra-base hit.
That streak ended on the first batter of game two.
Alyssa Bolger sliced a double down the left field line. Samantha Albertson moved her along with a sacrifice bunt, and
Grace Gonzalez drove her home with her second hit of the afternoon. The Spartans, however, answered with a two-run home run in the second and another run in the third.
Kelsey Clever brought the Eagles closer with an RBI single in the fourth inning.
The Eagles stayed within pair of runs until York pushed four runs across in the bottom of the sixth. Clever hit a double with a runner on and nobody out in the seventh, but the Eagles only scored a single run on a
Meagan Quinn ground out.
"Again, we played a lot better in the second game," Head Coach
Claire Emplit said of her team's effort. "We made adjustments at bat and were able to get some solid hits, and Melissa was solid on the mound again."
The Eagles will look to get some offensive momentum when they host Widener tomorrow.
