Softball Drops Two to Manhattanville

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– The young Eastern University softball team jumped right into the deep for their first foray into the MAC Freedom for the year. The Eagles dropped a pair of games to the MAC Freedom favorite Manhattanville College Valiants in the first games on Eastern's campus this spring.

The Valiants socred two runs on a double in the third inning and a single run in the fourth to lead 3-0 off Melissa Irick in the opener. Manhattanville scored two more in the top of the seventh before the Eagles manufactured a run with two outs in the seventh. Kelsey Clever drove in the run with a sacrifice fly.

The Eagles made Manhattanville hit to win in the opener as Irick did not walk a batter. Jess Snader and Grace Gonzalez each had a pair of hits.

The Valiants, who hit .367 as a team last year, put the Eagles in an early 6-0 hole in the nightcap. Clever hit a sacrifice fly in the to drive in Taylro Crown in the fourth, but the Valiants scored six in the fifth inning to end the game early.
