FOREST GROVE, Ore.– The host Pacific University Boxers jumped to a 7-0 lead and held on to beat Eastern University Women's Lacrosse, 19-8, in non-conference game in Oregon.
Liz Brennan and
Julie Haggan each had three goals for Eastern.
The Boxers led 7-1 at the midway point of the first half and dominated on possession with seven of the first nine draw controls of the game. Once the Eagles started to get possession, they staged a rally and cut the Boxer lead to 8-5 with eight minutes to go in the first half. Brennan had two goals in the run. Haggan,
Anna Charlebois, and
Paige Peachey each had single tallies in the burst.
Eastern had three different possessions with a chance to cut the deficit to two goals, but the Boxer defense came through and forced turnovers or wide shots. Pacific's Paisley Hiefeld scored her third of the day with 73 seconds left in the half to push momentum back toward the home side.
That momentum carried into the second half, and Pacific scored four goals in the first five minutes to reestablish control of the game. Haggan scored twice more and Brennan had a goal on a free position shot, but the Eagles were unable to get teh run of goals they would need to come back. Pacific had a 12-2 advantage on second-half draw controls and a 23-6 edge for the game.
Pacific finished 10-4 in 2016.
The Eagles will return to action at Lancaster Bible College on March 8th.
