Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Hoops Upended at Neumann

ASTON, Pa– A five-minute dry spell near the end of the first half put Eastern University Men;s Basketball behind at Neumann University, and the Eagles never recovered in an 89-67 loss. Antonio Chapman scored a team-high 16 points to lead the Eagles.

"First of all," Head Coach Eric McNelley said after the game. "They are good. They executed their stuff and are going to be very tough to beat this year. We watched them on film and knew that we would need to be good in transition defense and meet them outside the paint to keep their guards from getting downhill. We were not able to do either."

The two teams traded baskets through the early part of the game before the Eagles went 12 possessions without a basket over a five-minute span between a pair of baskets by Chapman. The Knights went from leading 26-23 to a 30-27 lead. That run proved to be the difference in the game.

"We are young, and we are still figuring out who we are," McNelley added, "but we went way out of character in that stretch. We did not execute our offense and started playing to try to get to fouls rather than executing to get god shots."

Eastern trailed 42-32 at halftime. Chapman led all scorers at the intermission with 14 on 4-of-8 from behind the arc.

The Knights kept the Eagles from getting within double digits in the second half and pulled away late. Eastern made only 2-of-11 3-pointers after the break. Gabe Perez scored ten of his 12 points in the second half.

Eastern will play at Lehigh University tomorrow at 2 pm.
