Men's Soccer Defeats Rival Cabrini

RADNOR, Pa - Easter University men's soccer defeated rival Cabrini University 5-1 on Saturday night. Cade Harmon netted two first-half goals, a minute apart, to help lead the Eagles to victory.

Harmon wasted no time getting Eastern (6-1-1) on the scoreboard tallying goals in the ninth and tenth minute. After Cabrini (3-4-1) had misplayed a ball in its defensive end, Harmon was right there to intercept the pass and raced in on net to tally the matches opening goal. Just a minute later Harmon capitalized again when he chipped the ball over the head of Cavaliers goalkeeper CJ Serratore to extend the Eagles lead to 2-0.

Cabrini kept the pressure on however and had two chances late in the half to try and get back in the match. In the 39th and 41st minute, the Cavaliers had shots on net that were turned aside by Quentin Keibler to keep the score at 2-0 heading into halftime.

The Eagles went right back to work in the second half tallying a goal in the opening four minutes of the half. Colin Furlong ripped a shot from just outside the box that deflected off Serratore and Brian Plucinsky was right there to finish off the loose ball for the 3-0 lead.

The Cavaliers tallied their lone goal of the match in the 59th minute scoring on a ridiculous long shot that found its way into the far side of the net to make the score 3-1. Eastern was not phased however as Sean Dougherty and Harmon both tallied shots less than 40 seconds apart in the 61st minute but were denied by Serratore.
However, in the 72nd minute, Dougherty put the game out of reach when he finished off a great cross from Jereme Wells with a beautiful header to make it 4-1.

Jake Sankey netted the fifth and final goal of the night in the 74th minute. Sankey made a great individual effort dribbling through three defenders and beat the goalkeeper to make the score final at 5-1.

In the 76th minute, Cabrini was awarded a penalty kick and an opportunity to get back on the scoreboard. However, Keibler had a great reaction smothering the ball to preserve the four-goal victory.

Overall, Eastern totaled 15 shots, placing ten on net while Cabrini took 11 with six on goal. Keibler and Serratore each totaled five saves for their respective teams in the match including saves on penalty kick attempts. The Cavaliers held the edge on corner kicks 7-5.

Eastern will host Neumann University on September 28th for a  4 p.m. match.
