Men's Soccer Blanks Salisbury

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - The Eastern University men's soccer team defeated visiting Salisbury University 1-0 on Tuesday afternoon. Vanji Moise netted the game-winner in the fourth minute of the match to give the Eagles their fifth victory of the season.

In the fourth minute, JD Saracco got wide of the Sea Gulls (3-2-1) defense and played a beautiful cross into the box. Moise finished it off with a volley into the back of the net to give Eastern (5-1-1) the lead and eventual win.

From that point on it was the Eagles defense that controlled the game and held on for the win. Salisbury didn't tally a shot until the 22nd minute of the match which was blocked. In the 29th minute the Sea Gulls had another opportunity to pull even but Quentin Keibler denied the attempt to keep the score at 1-0.

The Sea Gulls got off to a quick start in the second looking for the tying goal less than a minute into the half but saw their attempt turned aside again by Keibler. Salisbury would have two more chances in a four-minute span but once again could not find a way to capitalize. After a header attempt on a free kick missed the crossbar the Sea Gulls had another opportunity in the 57th minute, but Keibler was there again to deny the attempt.

In the 85th minute, Cade Harmon had an opportunity to extend the Eagles lead, but his shot whistled wide of the mark leaving the score at 1-0. Salisbury had one last opportunity in the 90th minute to tie the match. After a foul had been called near midfield, the Sea Gulls were rewarded with a free kick and played a ball into the box that was headed just over the crossbar and made the score final at 1-0.

Overall, Keibler had four saves in the match and tallied his third clean sheet of the season. The Eagles totaled six shots while Salisbury had ten placing four on net. Eastern held the advantage in corners 6-1.

Eastern travels across the street to square off against rival Cabrini University on September 24th for a 6 p.m. match.
