Women's Soccer Blanks Rosemont

ROSEMONT, Pa. – The Eastern University women's soccer team tallied five first-half goals en route to a 6-0 shutout victory over Rosemont College on Saturday morning.

"Challenge of the game was it was a morning game and our third of the week,' said Head Coach Dan Mouw. "I was very pleased that we were able to pop a pair in early."

The Eagles (2-5)  turned in a dominating performance totaling 40 shots and eight corners in the match. In the fifth minute, Eastern earned a corner, and Zoe Galvin stepped up to take it. Galvin played a great ball into the box where Nicole Weenink perfectly timed a header that found the back of the net her first of the season and the 1-0 advantage.

Emily Cole recorded the first of her back-to-back markers in the 17th minute. Weenink slotted the ball through the Ravens back line right into Cole's path who beat the goalkeeper to stretch the lead to 2-0. Cole found the goal a second time in the 33rd minute finishing off a beautiful pass from Alondra Cervantes. It gave Cole her team-leading seventh tally of the year.

In the 38th minute, Caroline Lozzi stretched the lead when she blasted a shot that deflected off of the hands of the Ravens (1-5) goalkeeper and into the net. Eastern's final goal of the half came with just under two minutes to go. Carli Sitkowski fired a shot on net that deflected off the underneath part of the crossbar and right in front of Alyssa Scalen who made a gret run at the net and finished off the loose ball for the 5-0 lead.

"That's a great goal," continued Mouw. "So many times you see teams watching that ball off the bar but Alyssa did not wait for the right hop or try for anything pretty. She just made sure it went in."

Cervantes tallied the final goal for Eastern in the 58th minute. The Eagles earned another corner, and Lydia Peachey played a beautiful ball into the box where Cervantes rose above everyone and capitalized on the header to make the score final at 6-0.

"I was very pleased with a lot of what I saw from our younger players," concluded Mouw. "We did not finish our shots in the second half, but we created several really good chances."

Leah Lozzi and Adrianna Rowlands combined to tally Eastern's second clean sheet of the season. Lozzi recorded three saves while Rowlands totaled two.

Eastern returns home to face Stockton University on September 21st at 4:30 p.m.
