LANCASTER, Pa. - Eastern University volleyball completed day one at the F&M Scramble with a clean sweep, defeating Ohio Northern and host F&M.
The Eagles (9-0) defeated Ohio Northern (7-2) in their first match of the day by the final score of 3-0.
Stephanie Elechko led the Eastern attack totaling 25 kills and tallying a team-high hitting percentage of .457.
Eastern won the first and second sets by the score of 25-22. As a team, the Eagles totaled 18 kills and tallied a team hitting percentage of .381 in the opening set win.
In the third set, Eastern sealed the victory with a 25-16 win. The Eagles held Ohio Northern to a hitting percentage of .023.
Overall, Eastern totaled 49 kills as a team and recorded ten blocks.
Sarah Roberts led the Eagles with four blocks of her own while
Michelle Paulsen recorded three.
In the second match of the day, the Eagles defeated the Diplomats of Franklin & Marshall 3-1. After dropping the opening set, Eastern went on to win three straight to capture the victory and earn the day one sweep.
The Eagles claimed the second set by the final score of 25-22. Both teams battled back and forth early in the set, but Eastern eventually pulled away, opening up a six-point lead at 18-12. However, the Diplomats battled all the way back to tie the match at 19-19. Elechko tallied two kills over the final six points to deliver the victory.
In the third set, the Eagles jumped out to an 8-5 lead and never looked back, outscoring F&M 17-5 down the stretch to earn the 2-1 advantage. Five different Eastern players tallied kills during the 17-5 run to claim the set. The Eagles totaled nine kills in the set overall but held the Diplomats to a hitting percentage of .086.
Eastern captured the fourth set by the final score 25-20. The Diplomats jumped out to a 9-6 lead, but the Eagles battled back and eventually took a 20-17 lead. Elechko tallied four of the Eagles final five points to give them the victory.
Overall, Elechko totaled 20 kills to lead the Eastern attack while
Alicia Weigel recorded 11 of her own.
Rylie Haas tallied a team-high 18 digs while both Weigel and
Morgan Kline finished the match with 16 each.
Eastern will face Salisbury University and Ithaca College on September 17th at 12 and 2 p.m respectively.
