Women's Soccer Falls to Dickinson

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - Eastern University women's soccer dropped a tough 3-0 decision to visiting Dickinson College on Saturday afternoon in the home opener. The Red Devils tallied two second-half goals to secure the victory.

"We struggled in the heat today," said Head Coach Dan Mouw. "We found some good combinations early and were able to move the ball, but as the day wore on, our movements were not as crisp, and our connections were not as good. It was hot for them too, but they were able to grab more possession in the game and we wound up fading in the heat."

Eastern (1-3) came out firing taking two shots in the opening two and a half minutes of the game. Emily Cole had an opportunity to give the Eagles the lead in the second minute but saw her shot saved by Dickinson goalkeeper Amanda Masterson. Alondra Cervantes had a chance moments later, but her shot whistled wide of the mark keeping the match level at 0-0.

The Red Devils (3-0-1) broke through in the 25th minute to take the 1-0 lead. Cervantes had an opportunity to pull the Eagles even just moments later but once again Masterson denied the opportunity.

Dickinson didn't wait long to stretch its lead netting its second goal of the match in the 50th minute.

In the 75th minute, Eastern earned a penalty kick and had a chance to pull within one. Zoe Galvin played the ball into the box, and Amy Radcliffe managed to get her head on it, but Masterson again tallied the save.

The Red Devils iced the game in the 90th minute scoring their third goal of the match to make the score final at 3-0.

"It was frustrating to concede a pair of goals on restarts," concluded Mouw. "The goal at the start of the second half made things really tough. We have a challenging week ahead."

Overall Eastern took seven shots placing five on net while Dickinson took 15 with ten on net. Adrianna Rowlands finished the match with seven saves while her counterpart Masterson totaled five.

Eastern travels to Haverford College on September 13th for a 4:30 p.m. match.
