Men's Soccer Battles Lycoming to Tie

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - Eastern University men's soccer battled visiting Lycoming College to a 1-1 double overtime tie on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore midfielder Cade Harmon netted the Eagles lone goal of the match.

After a relatively quiet opening 20 minutes of the match Eastern (2-0-1) drew a foul and were awarded a free-kick just outside the box. JD Saracco stepped up to take the kick attempt and played a beautiful ball into the box where Jadon Ramsing played a header right in front of Harmon, who fired the ball into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.

The lead did not last long, however, as the Warriors (1-2-1) came right back to tie the game in the 25th minute. With neither team able to establish any offensive threat for the reaminder of the half the teams headed to the locker room tied at 1-1.

Lycoming had the best chances of the second half to try and break the deadlock but was unable to find the net. Both Quentin Keibler and the Eastern defense as a whole stood tall and turned away each chance the Warriors had. In the 62nd minute the Warriors saw their attempt stopped by Keibler and between the 67th and 69th minutes both shots whistled wide.

With neither team able to gain the advantage the match headed to overtime. In the first overtime period, the Eagles earned a corner kick but were unable to generate any threat.

Then in the second overtime period, Lycoming looked as if they would win in the 107th minute. The Warriors played a ball in over the top and held the advantage in numbers for the offensive attack. Jordan Logan fired a shot near post from the right side but saw his attempt ricochet off the post and out of the box.

Both teams traded headers less than a minute apart late in the period, but neither were able to capitalize. Then with three seconds remaining a foul by Lycoming just outside the box gave the Eagles a free kick chance from just over 18 yards out. Sean Dougherty stepped up to take the kick but his shot went high as time expired leaving the game to finish in a 1-1 tie.

Overall Eastern took six shots placing four on net while Lycoming took 19 with only six on net. Keibler tallied five saves on the afternoon while his counterpart Chris Solecki totaled three.

Eastern travels to Haverford College on September 11th for a 4 p.m. match against Alvernia.
