ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – Eastern Women's Lacrosse dropped a tough 13-9 decision to visiting King's College on Saturday afternoon. The Monarch's tallied nine straight goals between the first and second half to hold on for the win and secure the final spot in the MAC Freedom playoffs.
Senior goalie,
Cortney Andes recorded 11 saves on the day to move into second place all-time on the single season saves list with 204 behind Kate Lovly, who recorded 216 in 1999. Andes does, however, become the all-time leader in saves for a career totaling 566 passing Lovly's mark of 543 set between 1998-2000.
Anna Charlebois led Eastern (4-13, 2-4 MAC Freedom) with five goals, scoring three in a row to tie the game in the first half. After falling behind, 3-0 Charlebois netted three markers in a span of just under 12 minutes to pull the Eagles even. She got Eastern on the scoreboard with just under 21 minutes left to play in the first half when she finished off a
Julie Haggan pass to make the score 3-1.
After King's (6-9, 3-3 MAC Freedom) retook the lead at 4-3 Haggan tallied two straight goals to give the Eagles their first lead of the afternoon. With just over six minutes left to play before halftime, Haggan tallied an unassisted goal to tie the game at 4-4. She would then finish off a
Stephanie Hogan pass to give Eastern the lead.
The Lady Monarchs would score nine in a row, three in less than a minute to close out the first half, to take a 13-5 lead with just under 18 minutes left to play in the game. Eastern's offense began to chip away at the lead, however, and pulled the game to within four with just under six minutes left to play.
During the scoring run, Andes and the defense held the King's offense scoreless over the final 17 minutes of play. Andes recorded two huge saves while the defense caused two turnovers to keep the game within reach.
Charlebois netted back-to-back goals less than five minutes apart from each other to make the score 13-7 with just over nine minutes left to play in the game.
Stephanie Hogan and
Alex Imperatore closed out the scoring for the day scoring just over a minute apart from each other to make the score final at 13-9.
Saturday's game would not only mark the last game of the season but the final career game as well for Andes, Hogan,
Megan Petza, and
Steph Biancucci.
