GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. - Eastern Baseball fell to host Gwynedd Mercy University on Monday afternoon 27-8. The Eagles scored two runs in the top fo the first inning but were unable to keep the momentum going as the Griffins scored in seven of the next eight innings.
The Eagles (14-20-3) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
Joe Grato doubled to score both
Shane Albertson and
Timmy Gorton, who had both reached base safely on back-to-back singles.
Trailing 5-2 in the top of the third inning the Eagles pulled within one scoring two runs. After a wild pitch had scored
Angelo Kelly, Grato came through once again this time with an RBI single scoring Gorton to make the score 5-4.
Gwynedd Mercy would score 13 runs over the next three innings to take an 18-5 lead.
Jordan Laboy tripled in the sixth inning to score
Connor Beaudoin and would later score on a Kelly groundout to make the score 18-7.
A Grato RBI triple in the top of ninth made the score final at 27-8.
For the game, Grato went 3-5 with four RBI's while Kelly went 2-5 with an RBI and scoring two runs.
Eastern travels to Manhattanville on April 29th for a 3:30 pm start.
