Baseball Holds On Against Manhattanville

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Eastern Baseball defeated host Manhattanville on Friday afternoon by the final score of 8-5. Jordan Laboy went 3-for-3 with three RBI's, two walks, and scored two runs to help the Eagles claim the victory.

Ryan Kehr anchored a solid effort by Eastern pitching staff (15-20-3, 8-11 MAC Freedom) going seven innings allowing eight hits and two runs while recording one strikeout, to earn his fourth win of the season.

After two scoreless innings to start the game Eastern took the early advantage scoring three runs during the third and fourth innings. A single by Jordan Laboy led off the inning, and he would advance to second on a sacrifice bunt the very next at-bat. Joe Grato singled to center to plate Laboy and give the Eagles the 1-0 lead.

Laboy stretched the lead to 2-0 in the top of the fourth inning with an RBI single to left to score Andrew Boykin. Boykin had reached base with a single to start off the inning.

Manhattanville (23-13, 12-7 MAC Freedom) trimmed the Eagles lead down to just one after scoring two runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning to make it 3-2. Boykin stretched the lead to two scoring on a wild pitch in the top of the fifth.

Eastern extended its lead to five, scoring three runs in the top of the seventh innings. Laboy recorded his third hit of the day with a two-run RBI double down the left field line to plate both Jake Bunjo and Craig Stanley to make the score 6-2.

Angelo Kelly and Craig Stanley each hit RBI doubles to stretch the lead to 8-2 heading into the ninth inning. The Valiants scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to cut the deficit to just three, but Andrew Check was able to close out the inning and secure the win for the Eagles.

Stanley finished the game going 2-for-5 with an RBI and scoring two runs while Kelly went 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Eastern will host Manhattanville on April 30th for the final two games of the series starting at 12 pm.
