Baseball Shutout by King's

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - Eastern Baseball was held scoreless for the first time all season as the Eagles fell 4-0 to visiting King's College. Ryan Kehr turned in seven solid innings of work for Eastern but suffered his third loss of the season.

Both pitchers were on their game early as neither team generated a real offensive threat through the first two innings. Kehr allowed three hits in the first two innings but settled down each time to keep the damage to a minimum.

After King's (15-7, 5-4 MAC Freedom) failed to score in the second inning after getting runners on first and second, Eastern (10-12-3, 4-5) had its opportunity to plate the opening run. After a leadoff single by Andrew Boykin, a sacrifice bunt by Andrew Check advanced Boykin to second. A wild pitch would allow Boykin to reach third, but a strikeout ended the threat and inning.

The Monarchs scored the game's opening run in the third inning on a solo blast to center field to make the score 1-0. The Eagles had an opportunity to tie the game in the bottom half of the inning but failed to convert. Jordan Laboy singled and would advance to second on an Angelo Kelly groundout to third. Later in the inning Joseph De Los Santos singled to left, and Timmy Gorton looked as if he would score the tying run, but he was tagged out heading for home, ending the inning and keeping the score at 1-0.

Kehr would allow two more runs on the day, giving up one in the fourth and another solo home run in the seventh. Overall, Kehr allowed 11 hits and giving up three runs, two earned, and struck out five over seven innings of work.

The Eagles had a few chances to get back in the game but just couldn't find a way to get any offensive momentum. In the sixth inning, Eastern loaded the bases, but two straight outs ended the inning and scoring threat and kept the score at 2-0. Over the final three innings, the Eagles managed to get a runner on base but couldn't take advantage of the opportunities and were kept off the scoreboard.

Eastern travels to King's on April 16th to finish off the series with a doubleheader against the Monarchs.
