DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Eastern Men's Lacrosse defeated host Delaware Valley University on Wednesday afternoon by the final score of 12-7. The Eagles scored nine even strength goals while
Tim Lamb totaled a season-high nine total points, all at even strength, to earn the win.
"We as a staff trust Tim to run our offense and make plays," said Head Coach
Kevin Wallace. "Tim has really embraced that leadership role and is producing for us at a high level."
Lamb was outstanding for Eastern (7-5, 2-0 MAC Freedom) tallying a season-highs in both points and assists, nine and four respectively, while also scoring five goals. Lamb scored his first goal of the afternoon in the first quarter to give the Eagles a 3-1 advantage with just under nine minutes left to play in the opening quarter. He would tally his first assist when
Mark Buannic tallied one of his three goals to give Eastern a 4-1 advantage right before the end of the opening quarter.
Bryan Mizell got the Eagles on the scoreboard when he scored back-to-back man-up goals less than 30 seconds apart to take a 2-1 lead just under the 11-minute mark of the first.
The Aggies (5-5, 1-1 MAC Freedom) scored four goals in the second quarter to pull even with Eastern momentarily. After Delaware Valley had trimmed the Eastern lead to just one, 4-3, Lamb finished off a pass from
Jake Billera to stretch the lead back to two. He would score again with just over two minutes left to go before halftime to break a 5-5 tie. Buannic tallied his second goal of the day with just four seconds left to go in the half to give the Eagles a 7-6 lead.
"We struggled to clear the ball in the first half, and that really hurt us," continued Wallace. "Our inability to clear kept them in the game and gave Delaware Valley a lot of opportunities which they took advantage of. Once we figure out what they were doing, we were able to start clearing the ball better and score."
In the second half, Eastern outscored the Aggies 5-1 to blow the game wide open and secure the victory. Lamb assisted the first two goals of the half which gave the Eagles a 9-6 advantage.
Desmond Decker and
Jake Pousson tallied their only goals of the day in the third quarter to stretch the Eastern lead to 9-6. Lamb then netted his fourth goal of the day less than a minute after Pousson's to make the sore 10-6.
The Eagles defense shut out the Aggies in the fourth quarter, and Lamb and Buannic sealed the win each scoring their fifth and third goal of the afternoon respectively. Lamb scored with just under eight minutes left to play to give Eastern an 11-6 lead while Buannic tallied Eastern's third man-up goal of the afternoon with two minutes left to play in the game making the score final at 12-7.
Overall Eastern outshot Delaware Valley 31-26 placing 20 shots on net. While the Eagles did commit 21 turnovers, they were excellent on groundballs scooping up 33 to the Aggies 25. Eastern also converted three times on two man-up opportunities while holding Delaware Valley scoreless on two chances.
"We know we are going to get everyone's best shot when we take the field," concluded Wallace. "I think the guys realize that and see that teams are going to throw everything they have at us. We play a very tough opponent on Saturday, and we have to see what we did well today, learn from what we did wrong, and be ready to play."
Eastern hosts Misericordia on April 16th in a rematch of last year's MAC Freedom Championship, which the Eagles won 22-7.
