ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - Eastern Men's Lacrosse dominated visiting Susquehanna Univeristy on Wednesday afternoon cruising to an 18-7 victory.
Matt Lee was crucial in the victory winning 20-26 faceoffs on the afternoon while the man-up unit was perfect scoring seven times on six man-advantage opportunities.
Eastern (4-4) jumped out to a 3-2 first quarter thanks in large part to Lee, who won 5-6 faceoffs in the opening quarter alone. Lee set up the Eagles with the first possession of the game winning the opening faceoff.
Tim Lamb tallied the game opening goal less than two and a half minutes later to give Eastern the 1-0 lead. Lamb would add two more goals in the quarter, one on a man-up advantage and one at even strength to give the Eagles the 3-2 advantage after one.Â
Lee continued where he left off in the second quarter winning six of seven faceoffs helping the Eagles score six goals to take a 9-2 lead into the break.
Jake Billera and
Jake Pousson tallied back-to-back goals 14 seconds apart with just over 11 minutes left in the first half to stretch the Eagles lead to 5-2. Billera struck again under three minutes later to extend the lead to 6-2 before
Trevor Gallion tacked on another goal less than 30 seconds later to stretch the lead to 7-2 after Lee won yet another faceoff.Â
Overall, Lee won 11-13 faceoffs in the first half to help Eastern jump out to the 9-2 advantage. The Eagles were also 1-1 in the first on their man-up opportunities while also doing a great job offensively of winning their one on one matchups to score eight of their nine goals unassisted.Â
After losing the first two faceoffs of the second half, Lee went on to win four straight and 6-9 overall in the third quarter. Eastern scored four times in the third, three times on the man-up advantage. After a cross-checking penalty by Susquehanna (6-3)
Mark Buannic capitalized off a
Desmond Decker pass to stretch the Eagles lead to 11-4. A slashing penalty right after the goal led to another Lamb goal to make it 12-4.
Brian Mizell capped off the third quarter scoring for Eastern when he tallied a man advantage goal with just over four minutes left in the third to make the score 13-4. The Crusaders tacked on the final two goals of the quarter to make it 13-6 after three.Â
The Eagles tallied five more goals in the fourth quarter, three off man-up advantages. Decker and Buannic each scored back-to-back goals on the same man-up advantage to stretch the Eastern lead 16-6 with less than ten minutes to go in the fourth. Buannic tallied another man-up goal with just under six minutes left to go to make the score 18-6. Susquehanna tacked on scoredl with just under five and a half minutes left to play to make the score final at 18-7.Â
Overall for the game Eastern won 21-29 faceoffs, was perfect on their extra man opportunities and scored nine unassisted goals. Lamb finished the as the games leading scorer with six goals while Buannic and Billera scored four and three goals respectively.Â
