Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Falls to No. 18 Susquehanna

MIAMI _ Eastern University Men's Basketball stayed in the game throughout but fell, 82-76, to the No. 18 Susquehanna University Riverhawks (9-1) in the final game of the day at the Hoop MIA Division III Holiday Shootout. Shaquan Turk finished with a  game-high 24 points to lead the Eagles (5-4).

Lincoln Holley put the Eagles on the board with a long 3-pointer on the opening possession, but the Eagles were not able to build on that with a couple early empty possessions. The Riverhawks, on the other hand, were very efficient and built a 19-8 lead six and a half minutes into the game.

After the two teams traded baskets, the Eagles answered with an 11-1 run and grabbed a 23-22 lead when Anthony Concepcion found Abraham Kurnick underneath for a lay-up with five and a half minutes left in the first half. Victor Peña made a pair of free throws to give Eastern (5-4) a 33-31 lead at intermission. Peña had a stellar first half on the glass. The sophomore center had 11 rebounds and a pair of blocks in the opening 20 minutes. Turk had eight points and Austin Duncan had seven.

Ryan Traub led the Riverhawks with nine points at intermission. Susquehanna started out hot from the floor but cooled off significantly as the half progressed. They made just 32.4 percent of their shots in the half.

The lead went back and forth early before the Riverhawks put together an 8-0 run midway through the second half to build a 59-49 lead. The Susquehanna edge grew to as big as 12 points, but the Eagles cut into the deficit with 3-pointers from Holley and Turk.

The Riverhawks made their free throws down the stretch to secure their ninth consecutive win.

"We knew we did not give ourselves any easy games down here." Head Coach Eric McNelley said of the tournament. "Susquehanna is very good. They handle the ball well, they make good decisions, and they make foul shots. It is tough to come back late on teams that do those things."

Duncan had 14 points and Holley had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Concepcion finished with eight assists.

Ryan Traub led the Riverhawks with 22 points. Steven Weidlich had 19 points and nine rebounds.

The Eagles have a nine day break before talking on Washington and Lee in the first game of a tournament in Lexington, Va.
