Field Hockey Falls, 2-1, at Wilkes

EDWARDSVILLE, Pa.–Eastern University Field Hockey dropped a tough 2-1 decision at Wilkes University on Saturday.

The host Colonels (9-6, 3-1 MAC Freedom) scored a pair of first half goals and held off a late charge to secure the MAC Freedom victory. Wilkes scored in the ninth minute on a high shot from Maura Anistranski. The Colonels doubled their lead in the 32nd minute.

The Eagles cut the lead in half midway through the second half. Ali Balmer drove up the left side and found Maya Wales in the scoring zone in front of the goal. Wales put away her third goal of the year on her first touch.

Wales had a chance to tie the game with under seven minutes to left, but Wilkes' goalie Dallas Kendra was equal to the task with her third stop of the game. Nicole Berger made 12 saves  to keep the the Eagles within striking distance until the final whistle.

The Eagles (4-9, 1-3 MAC Freedom) will host Misericordia on Tuesday at 4.
