MADISON, N.J.– After over a week off, Eastern University Volleyball shook off the rust and cruised to an efficient three-set MAC Freedom win at FDU Florham. Senior outside hitter
Stephanie Elechko led the way with 16 kills.
From the start, the Eagles (18-2, 5-0 MAC Freedom) served well to put the host Devils out of system. The Eagles finished with eight aces, but the true measure of the strength of the Eastern service game can best be measured in the Devils' inability to sideout with regularity. The Eastern defense feasted on the predictability that aggressive serving creates with nine total blocks.
Michelle Paulsen continued her historic pace with eight blocks.
Eastern won the opening set, 25-11, the second set, 25-18, and the third set 25-12. The Eagles hit .417 in the final set. With the win, Eastern secures a top-two seed in the MAC Freedom Tournament.
Elechko hit .464 with 16 kills on only 28 attacks.
Alicia Weigel finished with seven kills on 20 attacks.
"Our offensive timing is a coming back slowly," Head Coach
Mark Birtwistle said after the match. "We hit near .250 tonight. The team is looking forward to the trip to Colorado."
Birtwistle commended the work of his defense behind the block.
Rylie Haas finished with 14 digs, and Weigel added ten.
The No. 12 Eagles will play No. 23 Millikin and No. 8 Colorado College on Friday at the Pikes Peak Challenge hosted by Colorado College.
