LANCASTER,Pa.- Eastern University Men's Soccer settled for a scoreless draw against Alvernia in the opening game of the Scrapyard Classic at Franklin and Marshall College. The match was delayed for lightning in the 80th minute and deemed final.
Once again, the Eagles found themselves in a midfield battle. Both teams put a pair of shots on goal in the first half, but neither was able to solve the opposing goalkeeper. Both teams contested every ball and neither was able to find space for a shot on goal in the second half.
"Both teams were trying to play the game the right way," Eastern Head Coach Mark Wagner stated. "Early in the season, though, sometimes it is really difficult to get things to click offensively. With two teams that were not going to get beat without something special, the game turned into a bit of a stalemate."Â
The Eagles (1-0-1) and goalkeeper Quentin Keibler have not given up a goal in their first two matches this season.
The Eagles will have to bounce back quickly. They take on Arcadia University (0-1-1) in the final game of the Scrapyard Classic tomorrow at 3:00.Â
