The Eastern Field Hockey Team kept their winning streak alive as they rolled past the host Blue Jays of Elizabethtown College 5-2.
The game was a tale of two halves for the Eagles and even Blue Jays as both teams had an offensive outburst in the 1st half capped by a defensive battle in the 2nd half. Just over five and a half minutes into the 1st half Elizabethtown got on the scoreboard when Alyssa Aichele tallied her eighth goal of the season to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead. The lead was short lived in fact it lasted for 26 seconds as Sr. Forward
Danielle Frasca struck gold to knot the game at 1-1.
Eastern would tally the next two goals as
Jess Kinzler found the back of the net at the 14:31 mark to make it a 2-1 lead for the Eagles followed by
Gina Miller, who also tallied an assist in the game, just four minutes later who extended the lead to 3-1.
However, the Blue Jays wouldn't go away as Jacki Hikes tallied a goal in the late stages of the 1st half to cut the Eastern lead to 3-2 heading into the break.
The Eagles however kept the offensive pressure on in the 2nd half and turned up the defense as they blanked Elizabethtown on the scoreboard but kept lighting it up on their end.
Hayley Williams tallied her third goal of the season when she found the back of the net at the 44:09 mark to put the Eagles back up by two, 4-2. Frasca ended any chance of a comeback for the Blue Jays when she netted her second goal of the night and fourth of the season to extend the lead to 5-2 which would prove to be the final score.
Eastern edged out Elizabethtown in every stat during this afternoon's game as they out shot the Blue Jays 18-14 putting 12 of those shots on net. However, most importantly So. Goalie
Nicole Berger tallied eight saves on the night to help the Eagles earn the win.
The win moved Eastern to 7-1 on the year, extending their winning streak to seven in a row, and gives them a great confidence booster heading into their MAC Freedom game against Misericordia. The game will be in Dallas, PA on October 3rd with an 11 AM start time.
