ST. DAVIDS, Pa.- Eastern University Field Hockey scored a pair of second-half goals to surge to a 3-1 win over the visiting Profs of Rowan University(3-3).
Danielle Frasca netted the game-winner in the 44th minute of action.
The Eagles (5-1) jumped on the board first on an
Alison Hoag tally in the eighth minute. The first year forward darted into the circle where she received a tight pass from
Lauren Gay and tucked it home for her first tally of the year. After Hoag's goal, however, the Eagles had to absorb a lot of pressure from the Rowan attack. The visitors knocked at the doorstep, but the Eastern defense kept the Profs out of the circle for a good portion of time and then
Nicole Berger came up with saves. The sophomore transfer stopped six shots in the final twenty minutes of the half.
The Profs found their equalizer in the 29th minute on a rebound of a blocked shot. The original shot came from the center of the circle. The deflection went to the outside edge of the cage. Jenna Pressler was there to tuck it home for Rowan.
After Berger saved the first shot of the second half, the Eagles applied steady pressure. Rowan goalie Carly DeMarco made a pair of strong saves, but she left a rebound on her on her third save of the half. Frasca cleaned up the rebound for her second tally of the year.
Megan Bolton delivered the original shot that created the chance.
"We are really pleased, " head coach
Camrin Azzarano noted, "with the level of hockey we are producing. Rowan is a great game where we have to dig deep and play smart hockey. We put together a seventy minute effort today."
Up a goal, the Eagles continued to pressure the Rowan net, and
Macey Talhelm tucked away her first goal of the year to give the hosts thier final margin.
Jess Kinzler hit the original shot. Talhelm became the ninth Eastern player to score a goal this year.
Berger picked up a career-best 12 saves in the win. The Eagles, who have won five straight, will travel to DeSales on Saturday for their Freedom Conference Opener.
