Eagles Stopped by Cougars

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.--Eastern University Women's Lacrosse dropped Wednesday's rainy Freedom Conference game with the Misericordia University Cougars. The Cougars doubled up the Eagles 16-8 behind five goals from senior Brooke North.

Fellow senior Melina Juliano kickstarted the Cougars' offense from the midfield. Juliano recovered 10 draw controls and the Cougars scored six times after she won the draw.

Eastern sophomore Anna Charlebois scored a team-high four goals on six shots. She also had four draw controls and three ground balls.

Stephanie Hogan tallied two goals, four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Rachelle Lehman and Jacquelyn Janda each added a goal. Janda a game-high four caused turnovers.

In goal, Eastern's Cortney Andes recorded 10 saves, and Misericordia's Katie McLoughlin recorded 11 saves.

The Eagles had the upper-hand to start with Charlebois scoring at 26:22 and 24:24 in the first half. However, Misericordia posted 5-0 run in a seven-minute span.

Eastern defender Rachelle Lehman interrupted the Cougars' streak with 10:29 remaining in the first. She zipped upfield on a clear and went right toward the cage. She fired off her first goal of the year. Lehman, who doesn't get many scoring opportunities as a defender, has four career goals, three of which have come against Misericordia at home.

The Eagles scored once more in the half on Charlebois' third of the game but trailed 7-4 going into the locker room.

Hogan scored six minutes into the second half to pull Eastern within two, but Misericordia rattled off four straight to run away with the game.

Eastern (3-9, 0-2 Freedom) travels to Manhattanville on Saturday for a 1 p.m. game.
