PURCHASE, N.Y.—Eastern Women's Lacrosse collected its first Freedom Conference win of the season on Saturday by beating the Manhattanville College Valiants 11-8.
Manhattanville tied the game at 6-6 four minutes into the second half, but Eastern out-scored the Valiants 5-3 down the stretch to take the contest.
Anna Charlebois scored five goals for the third game this season and upped her season total to 42 goals. Julie Haggan netted three goals, Jenn McKelvie added two and Stephanie Hogan scored once.
Manhattanville's Meghann Haggerty had a team-high three goals. Haggerty scored the game's first two goals within three minutes of the opening draw. Eastern's leading-scorer Charlebois then netted her first two.
After Manhattanville took a 4-3 lead with Jennifer Machin's second goal, the Eagles scored three straight—two from Charlebois and one from McKelvie.
The Valiants scored with two minutes left in the first half and then tied the game at 26:02 in the second half.
Haggan sank a free-position shot with 23:52 to go to give Eastern the 7-6 advantage and the lead for good. Two minutes later, McKelvie scored and then four minutes after that Haggan added another free-position goal to give the Eagles' some breathing room.
Eastern goalie Cortney Andes had one of her best games of the year in the win, denying 14 shots on goal—six in the first half and eight in the second.
The Eagles (4-9, 1-2 Freedom) play at upstart Delaware Valley University on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
