TUCSON, Ariz.—Eastern University Softball ended its spring
break trip with a split in Friday's games against Siena Heights University and
Aquinas College.
Eastern earned its first win of the season Friday morning by
topping Siena Heights 8-6. The Eagles fell to Aquinas 7-1 in the second game.
The Eagles had 12 hits against Siena Heights and everyone in
the starting lineup. Deanna Laughman collected a team-high three hits and
knocked in two RBIs. Ashton Tomlinson had two RBIs as well. Kristen Waters,
Kasey Williams, Emily Houck and Jackie Digiacomo each batted in a run as well.
Haleigh Williams collected the win in the circle, recording five strikeouts.
After scoring twice in the third, Eastern scored five runs
in the fourth. Laughman doubled with the bases loaded to bring in two runs. The
Eagles added two runs on sac flies in the inning and then another on an
RBI-double by Houck.
Siena Heights pulled within one in the fifth, but Eastern
added an insurance run in the seventh with a sac fly by Digiacomo that scored Kerchersky.
Against Aquinas, the Eagles were limited to two hits, one by
Tomlinson and one by Laughman.
Aquinas had a 5-0 lead going into the fifth before Eastern
scored its lone run. Laughman singled to center field to bring in Keri Hupp
from third.
Eastern returns to Pennsylvania on Saturday morning and is
scheduled for a doubleheader at Immaculata University next Saturday depending
on whether the fields are able to defrost and dry up by then.
