Eagles Hold Off Blue Jays In OT

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.—Eastern University Women's Lacrosse secured a 14-13 overtime win at Elizabethtown College on Thursday afternoon. The Eastern Eagles (3-6) scored twice in overtime to hold off the Blue Jays (3-5).

Freshman Julie Haggan scored a team-high five goals for the Eagles. Anna Charlebois and Stephanie Hogan added goals, Megan Petza scored twice and Jacquelyn Janda scored once.

Rookie goalie Alina Odjemski picked up the win while recording eight saves.

A string of four goals midway through the first half put the Blue Jays ahead 7-4, and Eastern was forced to play catch up for the next 38 minutes. Every time the Eagles came close in the second half, Elizabethtown's Addie Stang seemed to have an answer.  She led the Blue Jays with five goals.

Stang put the Blue Jays ahead 11-9 with 13:26 remaining. Hogan scored her 13th goal of the season with 11:14 remaining to make it a one-goal game. With time running out, Charlebois knotted the game at 11-11. She momentarily gave Eastern the lead with 1:03 remaining on a free-position shot.

However, the lead was short-lived as Elizabethtown recovered the draw and attacked. Blue Jay Cierra Eckenrode drew the foul and knocked down the free-position shot with just 42 seconds remaining to send the game to overtime

In the six-minute overtime period, Petza earned a free-position attempt 80 seconds in and buried the shot. The Eagles went 7-for-15 in free-position attempts.

Eastern added a crucial insurance goal with 3:11 remaining. Haggan netted a player-down goal after receiving a feed from Jenn McKelvie.

The goal proved to be important as Elizabethtown added a goal with seven seconds remaining, but it was too little too late for the Blue Jays.

Eastern hosts No. 14 The College of New Jersey on Saturday at 1 p.m.
