Men's Lacrosse Soars Past Ospreys

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.--Eastern University Men's Lacrosse soared to a 15-5 win over the Stockton University Ospreys on Wednesday afternoon behind four goals from David Darling and Grant Ferguson.

Eric Waibel, Andrew Travers and Jake Billera each scored two goals for the Eagles (7-2) and Desmond Decker added one goal. Five different players scored a goal for the Ospreys as they dropped to 6-2 on the year, losing their second game in a row.

Stockton went a perfect 8-for-8 at the faceoff X in the first quarter but the Ospreys were only able to turn those opportunities into two goals.

Decker and Darling scored to put Eastern up 2-0 in the first five minutes, but Stockton scored twice within two minutes to make it an even 2-2 game with 6:37 to go in the first quarter.

Eastern regained the lead a minute later and never looked back. Senior defender Mark Cyron checked the ball free from a Stockton attacker, recovered the groundball and sprinted up field for the clear. The ball temporarily got jarred from his pocket, but he deftly swept the ball to Darling off the left pipe who flushed the go-ahead goal with 5:16 remaining in the quarter. Cyron caused two turnovers in the win. The Eagles plucked the ball from Stockton's possession 17 times. Eagles' junior defender Tyler Gehlhaus had a game-high four caused turnovers. Jordan Norris added three and Nick Jinks had two.

After Darling's go-ahead goal, the Eagles went on to score another five goals consecutively capped off with Darling's fourth of the game and 99th of his career. On the resulting faceoff, Stockton finally tagged its third goal with 3:07 left in the second quarter. Faceoff man Eugene Isola went to the house after winning the faceoff and scored.

Ferguson scored his first of the game with 28 seconds left in the second quarter to snap a game-and-a-half scoring drought.

Stockton scored the first goal of the second half, but Eastern rolled out five goals in a row to put the game well out of reach in the fourth quarter.

The Eagles took advantage of the lead to cycle in players that haven't seen as much time this season. The Eagles were able to play 40 players in the win including freshman goalie Jameal Hadeed who played his first minutes this year. Hadeed made five saves in the fourth quarter. Hadeed replaced Nick DiPiano who had recorded eight saves and earned the win.

Eastern opens conference play at home next Wednesday against King's College at 3:30 p.m.
