The Alvernia Crusaders' effort was spearheaded by Angel Adams and Julie Sutton's five goals apiece. Candace Knight helped establish Alvernia's offense with a game-high 10 draw controls.
Alvernia, playing its season opener, proved solid on the draw, collecting 22 of the game's 31 draw controls. With the additional possessions in hand, Alvernia took advantage and peppered Eastern with 42 shots, 17 more than the Eagles.
Cortney Andes recorded 15 saves but was hit with the loss; Alvernia's Colleen Reilly earned the win with seven saves.
The Eagles scored the first goal of each half, but Alvernia posted three strings of three consecutive goals and a four-goal streak as well to keep the Eagles' at arm's length. The Eagles' pulled within two goals at the start of the second half after Haggan scored twice in 16 seconds. Unfortunately for the Eagles, that was as close as they pulled the rest of the game.
