ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – Eastern Field Hockey used a four goal first half to claim a 5-0 win over the visiting Delaware Valley College Aggies. With the win, the Eagles secure the second seed in the upcoming MAC Freedom tournament.
Eastern (12-4, 6-1 MAC Freedom) tallied four shots in the first eight minutes of the match.
Gina Miller got the Eagles on the board in the 13th minute. Miller directed a pass off the pads of the Del Val goalkeper and then placed the rebound into the feet of an Aggie defender and into the goal.
The Aggies (6-11, 2-5 MAC Freedom) had a chance to tie the game, but the Eastern defense blocked Taylor Prichett's shot on the doorstep.
Megan Bolton extended the Eagles lead to 2-0 in the 28th minute. The senior center back converted a penalty stroke for her 38th career tally. Only 45 seconds later,
Jessica Kinzler broke through the Delaware Valley defense on a fast break and ripped a shot past Aggies' goalie Emily Aldridge for the 3-0 lead.
Kinzler scored her second goal of the half in the 31st minute for a 4-0 lead. The Eagles had a 15-3 edge in shots in the opening frame.
Miller knocked home her second of the day in the 58th minute to finish the scoring. Miller has now scored in three straight games for the Eagles.
"Gina has been working through injury for the past several weeks." Head Coach
Camrin Azzarano said of Miller's performance, "We really pushed her last week to rise up to the level she was playing at in the beginning of the year. She has responded extremely well."
Eastern put 19 of 21 shots on net.
Nicole Berger and
Jennifer O'Neill combined for three saves in gal for the Eagles.
Azzarano went on to say "Our girls worked hard to use the fundamentals we believe have allowed us to find success this year."
The Eagles will host third-seeded Misericordia on Wednesday Nov. 4th. The time for that game will be announced this weekend.
Eastern will play at Arcadia University on Saturday to close out regular season play.
