ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – Eastern Men's Soccer scored early, but had to settle for a 1-1 draw with the visiting DeSales University Bulldogs. The No. 8 Eagles remain unbeaten, but they saw their 11 game winning streak end when DeSales scored in the 82nd minute.
The Eagles started quickly.
Cade Harmon fired the first of Eastern's 15 shots on goal in the first 30 seconds of the match. Eastern (12-0-2, 3-0-1 MAC Freedom) grabbed the lead on a well-executed corner kick in the fourth minute.
JD Saracco whipped a perfect service onto the head of
Colin Furlong.
Jadon Ramsing knocked in a rebound of Furlong's header for his fourth goal of the year and a 1-0 lead.
The Eagles continued to press. They had seven shots before the Bulldogs registered their first attempt on goal in the 20th minute. Dan Sulpizio recorded eight of his 14 saves in the opening half to keep DeSales in the match.
When DeSales (5-8-2, 0-2-2 MAC Freedom) put a shot on frame in the 20th minute,
Jamie Stratton was in position to make the stop.
Eastern controlled possession and field position in the second half but could not find a way to increase the lead.
The Bulldogs found their goal following a free kick from just over midfield in the 82nd minute. Liam Husle jumped on the loose ball and snuck a shot inside the near post to tie the game.
Eastern had a chance to win in regulation.
Josh Cirocco missed just wide of the right post in the 90th minute.
Eastern earned three quality chances in extra time.
Sean Dougherty nodded a solid header on goal in the 98th minute. Sulpizio made the stop.
Hunter Rosenberg hit a header from close range over the bar in the 100th minute.
Rosenberg had a look in the 105th minute, but his shot whistled high off the mark.
Andrew Ferman had the final chance of the match. He gathered a loose ball at the top of the box, but his shot was blocked. The Eagles had won all three previous overtime matches this fall.
Eastern is now tied with King's atop the MAC Freedom.
The Eagles play at Wilkes University on Tuesday and will travel back up to Wilkes Barre on Saturday to play King's.
