DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Eastern Men's Soccer conitnued its unbeaten start with a convincing 4-0 win at Delaware Valley University.
Sean Dougherty scored twice as the Eagles scored four times in the first half.
Eastern University (12-0-1, 3-0 MAC Freedom) came charging out of the gates.
Cade Harmon netted the first goal of the match when he hammered in a pass from
Josh Cirocco into the lower right corner of the goal for a 1-0 lead.
The Eagles continued to put pressure on Delaware Valley (4-9-1, 0-3 MAC Freedom) testing goal keeper Connor Hedgepeth with 19 first half shots. In the 28th minute,
Billy Walenda capitalized on his own rebound to extend the Eastern lead to 2-0.
The remainder of the first half turned into the
Sean Dougherty show. The sophomore midfielder scored two goals in less than two minutes. In the 41st minute Dougherty got his foot on a loose ball near the top of the box and curled it around the goalkeeper for a 3-0 lead. Moments later Dougherty headed in a cross from
Jereme Wells to give Eastern a 4-0 halftime lead.
With a four goal lead, several of the younger players on Eastern's roster took advantage of their opportunities in the second half. Freshmen goalkeeper
Ben Lochstampfor recorded three saves to preserve the shutout for the Eagles. Assistant Coach
Adrian Heredia was very impressed with Ben's performance saying "he made two very good saves stretching low to his right for each one."
The Eagles will attempt to keep their unbeaten start going when they host DeSales on Saturday at 2 PM. DeSales was the only team to beat the Eagles in conference play last fall.
