Women's Hoops Holds Off Delaware Valley

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.--Eastern University Women's Basketball defended its home court again but did so in a tighter game than it's been used to at home.

The Eagles improved to a perfect 7-0 in St. Davids this season with the win over the Delaware Valley College Aggies on Saturday. They had been winning by an average of 27 points per contest, but won Saturday's contest by 12, 74-62.

Meghan Nowak scored a team-high 18 points while pulling down nine rebounds. Limited by foul trouble, Nowak only played 21 minutes. She shot 7-for-11 from the floor (63.6 percent). Emily Lavin had to carry much of the load in the paint with Nowak sidelined. Lavin played a season-high 38 minutes Saturday, scoring 14 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and blocking three shots. Senior forward Kaleigh Boreman filled in well in Nowak's absence with six points and eight rebounds.

Eagles' senior guard Gina DiDomenico played from the first buzzer to the last, logging 16 points and five rebounds in 40 minutes on the court. DiDomenico hit three 3-pointers on seven attempts.

Taylor Price finished with nine points and Kaitlyn Dougherty added eight points and six assists.

Delaware Valley forward Brenna Coll scored a game-high 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting.

Hot shooting from the start helped fuel an early double-digit lead for the Eagles. Price knocked down a 3-pointer on the first possession of the game. Through the first ten minutes of the game, the Eagles only missed five shots, going 11-for-16 (68.8 percent). At the 10-minute mark, Eastern's lead reached 12 points on a layup by Emily Lavin.

Delaware Valley chipped away at Eastern's double-digit lead in the second half, and cut it down to six points on four different occasions. Coll hit two free throws for the Aggies with 7:00 to play to make it a six-point game. Again, the Eagles rebuffed the Aggies' attempts to takeover the game; this time, Eastern's Emily Carmel knocked down a 3-pointer from the center of the arc and kept the Aggies at bay. The Eagles' lead reached double-digits again on the next possession, a DiDomenico layup, and stayed there the rest of the game.

Eastern shot 49.1 percent from the floor and held Del Val to 36.1 percent. The Eagles also out-rebounded the Aggies 41-31.

Eastern improved to 15-4 overall and 7-1 in the Freedom Conference with the win. The Eagles travel to Wilkes University on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. matchup.
