ST. DAVIDS, Pa.--Eastern Field Hockey topped the Widener University Pride 3-0 on Wednesday afternoon while dominating possesion for almost the entirety of the game.
The Eagles held Widener to one shot on goal while barraging the Pride with 17 shots on goal. The Eagles also out-cornered the Pride 12-1.
Eastern freshman Gina Miller scored twice in the contest, her first collegiate goals, and senior Alexa Borrelli tallied her second goal of the season.
Miller gave the Eagles the lead in the 15th minute on a corner play. Miller inserted the ball from the left side and eventually received the ball back from Lauren Gay at the left post for the finish.
"[Getting] my first two goals at the college level was awesome to begin with," Miller said. "[Getting them] in the same game was even better and just knowing that I helped my team come out on top was definitely a good feeling."
The Eagles upped their lead to 2-0 off another corner play in the 28th minute. Hannah Bartholomew received the insert and set up Borrelli at the right post.
Eastern stretched its lead to 3-0 in the 68th minute with Miller's second goal of the game. Miller wound up and fired a shot in the open field from just inside the circle that went across the cage and landed within the far post.
Widener had one scoring opportunity on a corner early in the first half, but Eagles' defender Megan Bolton swept the ball away to help secure the shut out.
The Eagles are back in action on Saturday at home against Franklin & Marshall College at 11 a.m.
