MONTCLAIR, N.J.—Eastern Field Hockey were even with the Montclair St. Red Hawks, the No. 3 team in the country, after the first 34 minutes of Friday night's season opener, but the momentum shifted in Montclair's favor just before halftime.
The Red Hawks scored 21 seconds before halftime to take a 2-1 lead and went on to score six straight goals in the second half en route to an 8-2 victory over the Eagles.
Eastern junior Danielle Frasca put the Eagles on the board in the 23rd minute, finishing a pass from freshman Shannon Kelliher. Kelliher tallied her first collegiate goal in the 70th minute, collecting a rebounded shot by freshman Karissa O'Conner and finishing it in front of the cage.
Seven different Red Hawks scored and forward Kaitlyn Struss led the team with two goals.
Eastern returns to action on Wednesday at Haverford College for a 4:30 p.m. contest.
