ST. DAVIDS, Pa.- In the final home game of the year, Eastern
University Women's Lacrosse fell 19-3 to a tough Rowan University team.
The Profs scored nine straight goals at the end of the first half to
pull away to a 13-2 lead at the break.
The Eagles entered today's game with one eye toward Saturday's league
finale at Wilkes. With results being what they are, that game has become
a play-in game for the upcoming Freedom Conference tournament. The
Profs (12-4) proved to be a tough test for the Eastern defense, but the
Eagles held their own in the early going.
Rowan jumped to an early 3-0 lead before Caleigh Falco scored to close
the gap to two with 21:45 on the clock. Rowan answered three minutes
later, but Anna Charlebois again pulled the Eagles within two with her
team-best 34th tally of the season.
The Rowan coaches took a timeout.
Led by Becca Wood, the Profs scored five times in a ninety second
stretch to open up a 10-2 lead. The speedy junior scored six times in
the first half to bring her season total to sixty and to stake her team
to a 13-2 lead at the break.
With the clock running through the second half, the Eagles were able to
slow the pace of the game with solid defense, but with Charlebois off after a second yellow card, they were only able to
generate a single Shannon Wilcox tally. The gap grew to 18-3 before a
goal in the final two seconds made the final 19-3.
Rowan had a commanding 19-4 edge in draw controls for the game.
The Eagles wrap up the regular season at Wilkes on Saturday. If they
win, they will earn the four seed in the Freedom Playoffs.
