Softball Falls in Sixth to Haverford

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.- After struggling through rainouts and freezing temperatures throughout the spring, Eastern University Softball finally had a warm day to play at home. Their bats, however, went cold as they mustered only a single hit in a 9-0 loss to Haverford.

The game was originally scheduled as a doubleheader, but with both teams approaching semester's end, the reschedule became a second single-game test against a Centennial Conference opponent this Spring.

Through five innings, the game was a pitchers' duel. Eastern's Alyssa Welsh  gave up only three hits and a single run through five. Haverford's Claire Fitzgerald did not allow an Eastern hit through four innings and Kendall Chambers retired three of the four Eastern hitters she faced in the fourth. Welsh broke up the Ford no-no with a lead-off double to center. The Eagles were unable to get a ball out of the infield to score Welsh.

Haverford took advantage of three Eastern errors to break the game open in the sixth. By the time the smoke had cleared, the Fords had plated eight runs on five hits for a 9-0 lead.

The Eagles were unable to scratch out a hit in the sixth and the game ended early by the eight-run rule.

The Eagles are scheduled to make up a doubleheader at Arcadia tomorrow.
