NEW YORK—Eastern University Women's Basketball starting forwards Emily Lavin and Meghan Nowak were back at it again on Saturday, scoring 20-plus points each in the Eagles' win over SUNY Old Westbury.
The Eagles topped Old Westbury 92-67 in the Hunter College Invitational consolation game behind Nowak's team-high 24 points and Lavin's 22 points. Nowak pulled down 11 boards for her second double-double of the year and also blocked five shots. Lavin, who one-upped her career high of 21 points (set on Friday night), did so on 11-of-12 shooting from the floor. She also had seven rebounds. Lavin was named to the all-tournament team.
Eagles' sophomore Emily Carmel contributed 16 points off the bench, sinking 4-of-7 shots from long-distance and 6-of-10 overall from the floor. Freshman Taylor Price collected her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 boards.
Jasmine Robinson led the Old Westbury Panthers with 25 points, 10 of which came at the free-throw line.
After six minutes of play, the Eagles trailed 16-11 but then burst into a 15-0 run sparked by a Carmel 3-pointer. The Eagles built an 18 point lead by halftime, with Lavin scoring a layup with under four seconds remaining in the first half. In the second half, the Eagles put the game completely out of reach and led by as many as 30 points.
Eastern (3-1) after four road games, makes its home debut on Tuesday against Keystone College at 7 p.m.
