Field Hockey Falls To Elizabethtown

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.—Eastern University Field Hockey fell 2-1 to the Elizabethtown College Blue Jays on Wednesday night, leveling out the records of both teams at 5-5.

Eastern sophomore forward Jess Kinzler scored the Eagles' lone goal, her third goal of the season. Eagles' keeper Jennifer O'Neill stopped nine Blue Jays' shots on goal and defender Alyssa Rowe recorded two defense saves as well to prevent any further damage.

Elizabethtown took the 1-0 in the 12th minute when Jackie Hikes worked the ball to the baseline right of the cage and crossed the ball into the middle finding Alyssa Aichele for the goal. Hikes got a goal of her own three minutes later when the Blue Jays attacked on a corner play. The ball entered the circle and deflected to Andrea Keady's stick then, still in the air, to Hikes' raised stick for the finish at the left post. The corner was one of seven corner attempts for the Blue Jays in the first half. The Blue Jays' offense earned 17 corners for the game compared to seven for the Eagles.

The Eagles score their only goal three minutes into the second half. After gathering her own rebound, Lauren Gay kept a corner play alive and dumped a pass inside to Kinzler. Kinzler swept the ball reverse-stick past the goalie and the back defender just inside the right post.

The Blue Jays had an opportunity on a breakaway in the 50th minute, but Rowe sacrificed herself on the goal line for consecutive defensive saves. The second hard shot deflected up and pounded off Rowe's chest, resulting in a penalty stroke for the Blue Jays. Elizabethtown's Keady missed the attempt wide.

The Eagles had one last chance to tie the score in the 62nd minute. Shannon Kelliher put a good attempt on goal, but Blue Jays' Selene Jones recorded the save, her seventh of the game to secure the win.

Eastern plays another home game on Saturday. They'll host DeSales University at 1 p.m.
