Women's Hoops Falls On Road To Neumann

ASTON, Pa.—Eastern Women's Basketball jumped to an 11-point first-half lead on Saturday against the Neumann University Knights, but after their shooting went cold in the second half, the Eagles fell by a final score of 67-50.

The Eagles built the 11-point first half lead with 7:11 remaining when guard Kaitlyn Dougherty picked up a steal and then finished the play with a 3-pointer from the top of the arc. Eastern still led by 11 with 5:15 to go after a Gina DiDomenico 3-pointer.

However, over the next 15 minutes, the Eagles took some good looks but were unable to get the shots to fall and were outscored 29-6 during that stretch. Eastern shot 40 percent from the floor in the first half, but just 21.4 percent in the second.

Meghan Nowak led the Eagles with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Dougherty finished with 10 points, three assists and three rebounds.

Freshman point guard Emily McPeak finished with eight points after making all five shots she took: a layup, 3-pointer and three free throws.

Sophomore forward Bethany Zimmerman added seven points and four rebounds in extended minutes.

The Knights were led by senior forward Colleen Hinde who finished with a season-best 24 points and 11 rebounds.

Non-conference play wraps up for the Eagles this week. They host PSU-Brandywine at 6 p.m. on Tuesday and travel to Keystone College at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
