ASTON, Pa.--Eastern Volleyball improved to 11-1 sweeping all four games of their tournament at Neumann University this weekend.
The Eagles defeated Pitt-Bradford 25-9, 25-14, 25-2, and then topped Richard Stockton College 25-17, 16-25, 25-16, 25-13.
Eastern took care of business quickly against Pitt-Bradford, nearly shutting them out in the third set if it weren't for an Eastern hitting error and service error. The Eagles hit .419 for the match. Senior Kearby Benak hit .545 for the match, going 14-for-22 with two errors. Benak also had five service aces. Freshman Alicia Weigel added four aces.
In the second match Saturday, the Eagles went four sets with Richard Stockton, winning the first, third and fourth sets. Stockton's tall front row gave Eastern some trouble, lowering Eastern's hitting percentage overall. "Stockton has two very good middles," Coach Birtwistle said prior to Saturday's match, "and they also have an All-Region right side who gave us fits last year."
Junior Lauren Sproles led the Eagles with 18 kills, hitting .469 for the match. Middle hitters Stephanie Elechko and Katrina Pisch also contributed double-digit kills, with 11 and 12, respectively.
Elechko and Sproles were selected to the all-tournament team by the coaches of the nine participating teams.
Eastern plays its first conference match on Wednesday at King's College and then its first home game on Saturday against Juniata at 1:30 p.m.
