HAVERFORD, Pa.--Eastern Volleyball earned two more wins on Saturday, in what was a more difficult second day of competition. The Eagles defeated Susquehanna University 25-23, 25-18, 25-23 and then took care of Haverford College in four sets: 25-14, 20-25, 25-20, 25-17.
Eastern senior Kearby Benak again headlined the Eagles' attack, recording 10 kills against Susquehanna and 16 against Haverford. Junior Lauren Sproles contributed 22 kills over both matches. Katrina Pisch had the most consistent attack today for the Eagles as she .429 over the two matches. While not as high as Satuday's extremely efficient performance, the Eagles maintained a good hitting percentage Sunday, outhitting Susquehanna .333 to .233 and Haverford .261 to .126. Head coach Mark Birtwistle commented that even though they didn't play their best volleyball today, they were still able to battle for two wins.
Eastern overcame a slow start in the opening game against Susquehanna. They trailed 9-14, but rallied for the 25-23 victory.
Birtwistle pointed out the solid weekend freshman libero Rylie Haas had. "She did a really nice job in serve/receive and made some nice defensive plays," Birtwistle said. Haas had 35 digs in Sunday's matches. Haas was named tournament MVP, and Benak and Pisch were named to the all-tournament team.
Eastern travels to Massachusetts this next weekend to play Williams College, Bowdoin College, Endicott College and UMass-Boston.
