RADNOR, Pa.- Eastern University Softball scored six times
in the fourth inning of game two to win 8-5 and salvage a split at Eagle
Road rival Cabrini College. Freshman shortstop Kasey Williams followed
up a 3-for-3 performance in the opener with the toughest three quarters
of the cycle in a 3-for-4 game two.
Janelle Fair knocked in
Williams with an RBI double in the first inning of the opening game, and
the Eagles picked up a pair of unearned runs in the fourth inning, but
the Cavaliers scored six times in their final three at bats to escape
with an 8-3 win and even the season series at 1-1. Eastern won a
neutral-site game 5-0 on the 5th of March.
The Eagles
(6-14) entered the day with only 11 extra-base hits. Williams put the
Eagles up with a two-run home run in the top of the first. The home run
was the third of the year for the Eagles and the first of Williams'
career. Cabrini scored a single tally in the bottom of the first to
halve the Eastern advantage.
Williams hit a one-out triple in the
third and Fair hit a ball hard, but her line drive went right to short,
and the Eagles could not stretch their lead.
The Eagles finally
put together a rally in fourth. Paula Redmon singles to lead off, and
Katelyn Donald put together a great at bat and took the eighth pitch of
her at bat the other way for a single. After Erica Chopas and Jessi
Baker reached on errors, Williams came to the plate with two outs and no
open bases. Williams drove a 1-1 pitch to right-center for a 2-RBI
double. Fair singled to left to drive in Baker and Williams. Fair scored
the sixth and final run of the inning on a wild pitch.
The
Cavaliers answered with three runs on four hits in the bottom of the
inning, but Fair struck out the final batter of the inning to strand two
Cabrini base-runners. Fair picked up her sixth win of the year with the
six strikeout performance.
Williams flied to center field in her seventh plate appearance of the afternoon. She leads the Eagles with a .388 average.
