ST. DAVIDS, Pa.- Eastern University Men's Lacrosse scored six straight goals to erase a three-goal deficit and top visiting Swarthmore College 13-7. Sophomore attackman Grant Ferguson registered his second hat trick in as many games to lead the Eagles (2-0).

The visiting Garnet (0-1) controlled the pace early and scored the first three goals of the game. Senior midfielder Steve Selverian scored two of his three goals in the first period, and Ian Lukaszewicz scored a man-up goal. 

Swarthmore had a 7-3 edge in shots through the opening frame.

The pace of the game remained very deliberate to start the second. Matt Soldano was the first Eastern player to solve the Swarthmore defensive puzzle. The senior midfielder blasted home his third goal of the year with eight minutes to play in the half to close the gap to 3-1. 

Selverian, however, answered just over a minute later with his third of the day. Eastern responded with long-range efforts from Eric Waibel and Desmond Decker to pull within a goal with four minutes to play. 

Eastern built momentum through the close of the period, but a penalty with two minutes to play slowed down the attack. The Eastern man-down unit kept the Garnet without a shot and, even down a goal, the momentum stayed with the Eagles.

The third quarter was almost all Eastern. Ferguson put in his first of the day off a rebound of a Will Johnson shot to tie the game. Three minutes later, Zac Ivy rolled the crease and powered home his third of the year. Seconds later, Farrar scored his first of the year on an aggressive ride by Brendan Stouber and the Eastern attackmen.

Up 6-4, The Eagles seemed to be in control of the game, but the Garnet still had some life. With five minutes to play, Aaron Benz made one of his 15 saves and started the Eastern clear. Andy Jameson made a tough catch on a pass from Ivy and attacked the unsettled Garnet defense. Jameson found Ferguson on the doorstep, and the sophomore sensation threw a couple fakes at the Swarthmore goalie before tucking home his fifth of the year.

Swarthmore grabbed a goal back with 3:19 on the clock, but the Eagles added two more before the end of the period. Ferguson completed his hat trick with 2:34 to play, and Farrar scored the 72nd goal of his career on another clever feed from Jameson.

Decker bounced home a left-handed missile in traffic to start the Eastern scoring a minute into the fourth. Up 10-5, the Eagles continued to fire at the Swarthmore goal, but the Garnet defense was able to block shots and elude further damage until Will Johnson put home his first of the year with four minutes to play. The Eagles were man-down, but had earned possession on a wide shot. Out of the timeout, Swarthmore elected to press out with their goalie. Johnson dodged a double-team and finished in an empty net.

The Eagles scored twice more against the empty net and the Garnet finished their scoring with 11.8 seconds left on the clock.

Eastern returns to action next Saturday with a home game against Hood.
