Volleyball Scathes FDU In Three Sets

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.--Eastern Volleyball improved to 25-4 (6-0 Freedom) this season with a scathing 25-15, 25-17, 25-11 home win over the FDU-Florham Devils on Tuesday night.

Eastern clinched the No. 1 seed in the Freedom Conference playoffs with the 3-0 win.

The Eagles controlled from the first point of the match and kept their attack spread out fairly evenly across the board. Sophomore Erin Hillman and junior Amy Guarino led the Eagles with six kills a piece. Kearby Benak, Lauren Sproles and Alicia Weigel tallied five kills each.

Benak kept the Devils off balance with her serve game. She finished with five aces.

Libero Rylie Haas added 21 digs, bumping her season total to 524. That total is good enough for third best in a season ever at Eastern. The record is 590 set by Kelly Groff in 2011.

Setter Rikki Schlager dished out 33 assists, just slightly below her season average of 11.4 assists per set. Her 11.4 clip is fourth best in the nation.

All 12 Eagles on the roster participated in the match.

After going 2-2 over the weekend the Eagles national ranking took a slight dip. They went from No. 12 to No. 16 this week.

The Eagles are not in competition this weekend. They will finish conference play when they host Delaware Valley College on Oct. 30 at 7 p.m.
