DOYLESTOWN, Pa.--Eastern University Softball edged Delaware Valley College 6-5 in game one of Thursday's doubleheader, but could not come up with any offense in game two, falling 9-0.
With the split, the Eagles' record now stands at 13-10-1 (3-3 Freedom Conference). Delaware Valley picked up its first conference win of the season. The Aggies are now 1-7 in conference play and 8-11 overall.
Eastern's Janelle Fair earned the win in game one, improving to 9-3, while teammate Maggie McGowan was tabbed with the loss in game two. Her record is now 4-7.
In game one, Eastern put two on the board in the first inning. Jessie Baker and Jaclyn Gangemi singled to start the game. McGowan singled to center field to score Baker, and Emily Houck batted Gangemi home on a fielder's choice.
The Aggies replied with one run in the bottom of the first, but Fair shut them out for the next four innings.
Eastern built its lead with an unearned run by Sam Terenzoni in the fourth and RBIs by Louise Fox and Terenzoni in the fifth and Jaime Schwartz in the sixth.
Leading 6-1 going into the bottom of the sixth, Eastern's lead nearly slipped away. The Aggies posted four runs in the bottom of the sixth and had runs on the corners with two out in the bottom of the seventh. However, the Eagles escaped the jamb as Fair struck out Dani Walton swinging.
In game two, the Eagles were only able to muster four hits while allowing 14 Aggies' hits. The game remained scoreless through three innings, but the Aggies plated three runs in the fourth, two in the fifth, and four in the sixth. Delaware Valley's Erin Fox slapped a three-run homerun over the left field fence to cap the game at 9-0, ending the game an inning early because of the mercy-rule.
The Eagles face Muhlenberg College in a home-doubleheader at 3 pm on Tuesday and DeSales University at 1pm on Thursday.
