DALLAS, Pa.- A short-handed Eastern University Women's
Lacrosse team scored six of the final seven goals of the match, but
Misericordia's Emily Foley scored with two minutes of play to lift the
host Cougars to a 14-13 win.
The Cougars led 6-3 with one minute
to play in the first half, but the Eagles scored with 11 seconds on the
clock on an Allie Fultz goal and added another from Courtney Reinhold
eight seconds later. Reinhold tied the contest at 6-6 only 54 seconds
into the second half.
The Eastern momentum stopped there as the
Cougars took advantage of a turnover to start a 6-0 run over the next 15
minutes. For the day, Misericordia (6-9, 2-3 Freedom) got five goals
from Melina Juliano and Foley had three.
The two teams traded goals, and then the Eagles started their comeback.
Jocelyn
Paul scored with 10:51 on the clock from Emmy Fisher. Kendall Rood
scored 39 seconds later, and Reinhold scored from Fultz with 9:14 to
play. Allie Gauthier finished a free position shot 30 seconds later to
close the gap to 13-11.
After Julia Furniss scored with six
minutes to play, Gauthier put away her second of the day to tie the
score with four minutes left. The Eagles had two shots to take the lead,
but Reinhold's offering went high and Misericordia's Erika Proctor
stopped a Shannon Wilcox Free Position shot to give the Cougars the ball
for Foley's final tally.
The Eagles, (5-9, 3-2 Freedom) will
complete their slate of Conference games on Tuesday at 4:00 pm. If the
Eagles can beat the Knights, they will still likely be in line for the
second seed in the Freedom Championships.
