CHESTER, Pa.- Eastern University Softball saw its five-game 
winning streak snapped with a pair of non-league losses at Widener 
University this evening. The host Pride scored five runs in the bottom 
of the fifth to earn a 5-1 win in the opener, Widener scored three times
in the fourth and added single tallies in the fifth and sixth to take 
game two 5-2.
Game one was a pitchers' duel at the outset. Janelle Fair allowed two 
hits prior to the fifth. The Eagles, generated chances in the first four
innings but were unable to plate a run. The Pride scored a pair of runs
on singles in the fifth. Val Perretti delivered the final blow in the 
fifth with a pinch-hit three-run homer to left after two were out.
Eastern
pulled a run back in the top of the sixth with a Jaclyn Gangemi double 
and an RBI single from Maggie McGowan, but they were unable to put a 
substantial rally together.
The Pride held a 4-0 lead before the 
Eagles scored a single run in the top of the sixth in game two. McGowan 
doubled and scored on an error. Widener grabbed the run back in the 
bottom of the inning and Eastern could only score once on three hits in 
the top of the seventh.
Eastern (18-13-1) returns to Freedom Conference action at Manhattanville College with a chance to secure a 
post-season berth. Any league win for the Eagles in their final four 
games will put Eastern in the final four for the first time since 
joining the Freedom Conference.
