Women's Lacrosse Drops Season Opener

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa.--Eastern University Women's Lacrosse opened the season with a 19-8 road loss to the Ursinus College Bears Thursday afternoon.

The Eagles had no answer to Ursinus' midfielder Alyssa Thren. Thren netted seven goals on nine attempts, including four free position goals. Eastern freshmen Jocelyn Paul, Shannon Wilcox and Sara Blaylock netted their first career goals, junior Kendall Rood also scored once and seniors Allie Fultz and Courtney Reinhold both scored twice in the losing effort.

Eastern's Paul opened the scoring with a goal three minutes into the game. Thren responded with a goal 24 seconds later, but Reinhold took the lead back for Eastern 46 seconds later.

The Bears then notched five unanswered goals from 23:41 to 8:39. Eastern's Allie Fultz scored two goals before halftime, but the Bears responded with seven straight goals over an 11-minute span that stretched into the second half.

Down 14-4, Eastern's Courtney Reinhold, Kendall Rood and Sara Blaylock each found the back of the net to cut the margin to half. However over the next 17 minutes, the Eagles only scored one goal (Shannon Wilcox) compared to Ursinus' five.

Eastern used two goalkeepers in the match; Kristay Getsay recorded 10 saves and Lindsey Corbitt recorded four saves.

Eastern heads to Hilton Head Island, S.C. for a spring break tournament next week.
