BALTIMORE, Md.- Eastern University Women's Basketball made
10-of-22 3-pointers, but it was not enough as the University of Maryland
at Baltimore County Retrievers (3-3) secured 24 offensive rebounds and
earned a 78-40 win. Katlyn Dougherty led the Eagles with 12 points.
The
Retrievers opened up a 40-23 lead at half. Eastern made six 3-pointers
but were unable to establish an inside presence against their Division I
opponents. The Eagles were just 2-for-15 from inside the arc, and
Yazlane Villegas attempted the only two free throws of the half.
Maghan
Nowak had all eight of her points before intermission. Brittany Crowell
led the retrievers with 10 points on 4-of-13 shooting.
The
Eagles briefly cut the deficit to 13 on back-to-back three pointers from
Gina DiDomenico and Kaleigh Boreman, but UMBC pulled away with a 19-0
run over the next eight plus minutes to secure the game.
The
Eagles (1-3) start Freedom Conference play with an important home test
against Manhattanville college on Wednesday night. That game is the
first of four Toys for Tots events. Fans who bring a new unwrapped toy
for donation will be admitted free of charge.
