Field Hockey Blasts Wilkes 6-1

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.-- Eastern University field hockey got back on the winning track Saturday, toppling Wilkes University 6-1 at home.

The win kept alive a Freedom Conference win streak that dates back to 2008.

The Eagles fired off a barrage of 29 shots in the victory. Forward Abby Wagner recorded two of the goals and added an assist.

Brittany Moyer started the scoring in the second minute after inserting the ball on a penalty corner. She received the ball back from Abby Wagner and placed it in the cage for the score.

After a Kelby Bolton goal, Moyer returned the favor, setting up Wagner for a goal in a pileup in front of the cage.

Jess Jaindl scored to put the Eagles up 4-0 after a penalty corner with the first time expired.

Wagner recorded her second goal of the afternoon when she tipped in a shot by Sarah Webb from close range.

Freshman Carly Friedman completed the Eagles' scoring by adding her first goal of the season.

With a comfortable 4-0 lead at halftime, coach Camrin Azzarano sent freshman Sara Blaylock into goal to get some experience. Azzarano was impressed with Blaylock's ability to step into the new position. Blaylock played the entire second half and stopped five shots while allowing one goal.

Azzarano also noted that her lineup was adjusted because of recent injuries and praised Hannah Bartholomew's play at center-mid today.

The Eagles move into a crucial point on the season where they play six games in two weeks.
